What a gorgeous day for a parade!
I forgot how emotional I get at these things - should have stuffed
some tissues into my knapsack. So many men and women
have made great sacrifices for our freedom
- it's a beautiful thing!
And I think of the words that Isaiah wrote about the Messiah,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Jesus was standing in the temple in his hometown, and he read this passage
aloud to the people gathered around him. Then he rolled up the scroll,
gave it back to the attendant and sat down.
The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.
And he said to them,
“Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Now, THAT...that is a really beautiful thing!!
That's the most Americana I've seen in a long time, and I was getting all sniffly just seeing your still pictures, and then you talked about needing a tissue too, so now I'm laughing. Someday I'd like to see another good parade.
ReplyDeleteI've gotta show the kids too.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting lot of photos!
ReplyDeleteWas that in Portsmouth, Chesapeake or Norfolk? I especially liked the dog in the T-shirt!
There's not a lot of Americana to be seen, it seems, lately, and it WAS very moving!
ReplyDeleteThis parade was in Portsmouth - I rode my bike to it, and Mike ran. It's the oldest continuous Memorial Day parade in the United States - I think this was the 129th year!
That was a very well done parade, and you got some great shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brenda (new camera!).
